Sebastian Ingrosso (born Sebastian Carmine Ingrosso on April 20, 1983) is a Swedish DJ and producer of Italian descent. Born in Grahamstown, South Africa but raised in Solna, Sweden. Sebastian spent his teenage years in his fathers studio learning how to make music, with his first official remix released on Mega Records in 1999.
He is head of A&R for his own record label, ‘Refune’, which has pioneered many artists in recent years including AN21, Max Vangeli, Style of Eye and Alesso. He was ranked #16 in 2010 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list and won the award for the highest new entry into the chart in 2009, a record beaten only by Deadmau5 into the 2008 Top 100 DJ list at #10. Sebastian is also one third of DJ super-group the Swedish House Mafia, along with friends Axwell and Steve Angello.
Swedish House Mafia is a Swedish House Music group consisting of the three disc jockeys and producers; Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group officially formed in late 2008.
Steve & Sebastian met as children in Stockholm; Axwell was not a member until many years later after they contacted him after a chance meeting. All three carried on producing tracks as a single body and with other producers such as Eric Prydz.
The name Swedish House Mafia first appeared on forums and was used to encapsulate the group of producers that were working together in the future. Steve Angello stated: “But we’ve been through everything together. I can always lean on one of their shoulders and they can lean on mine. I can always trust their opinions. When I have a track, they tell me straight away what they think. With Swedish House Mafia, you’re with friends….”
The first production that was released by Axwell, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso was “Leave the World Behind” featuring Deborah Cox. It was produced with Laidback Luke and released on Axtone Records in 2009.
In 2010 the Swedish House Mafia signed a record deal with EMI. They released their first official single, “One (Your Name)”, under the name Swedish House Mafia on Beatport on 26 May 2010, where it achieved international success, charting at number 7 in the UK Singles Chart. The next single “Miami 2 Ibiza”, featuring Tinie Tempah, charted at number 4 in the UK chart in September 2010. Both singles were taken from the “Until One” album; a collection of productions and remixes from both Swedish House Mafia and as the group as individuals. It has achieved a BPI Gold Sales award in the UK.
In 2010 Swedish House Mafia won the ‘Best Swedish Act’ award at the MTV European Ballz awards 2010. In 2011 Swedish House Mafia released a further new single “Save the World” featuring John Martin on vocals, charted at number 10 in the UK chart, released in May 2011.
On 23 September 2011, it was confirmed that the band would play at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 16 December 2011 and Milton Keynes Bowl 14 July 2012. By attaining this stage, Swedish House Mafia is making a huge statement on behalf of House Music around the world.
